Sofas & recliners: sourcing guide & manufacturers

Upholstered seating is quoted per set rather than per piece — typically a 3-1-1 or sectional configuration — which immediately makes price comparison harder than for chairs. The category spans fabric and leather sofas, sectionals, manual and powered recliners, and the massage-chair lines that several large seating factories run alongside. Listing vocabulary adds recliner-specific terms — reclining, footrest, genuine leather versus PU — to the usual modern/luxury/nordic styling tags.

A sofa is mostly things you cannot see: frame board or timber, webbing or springs, and foam. The visible fabric is a minority of the cost. That is why this category carries the broadest certification vocabulary we sampled — CE, SGS, CARB, REACH, FSC, ISO 9001/14001 all appear on listing pages, because frame board, foam chemistry and timber sourcing each have their own compliance regime.

Per-set pricing, sampled mid-2026

In listing data sampled mid-2026 (advertised, seller-claimed), the dense band on Made-in-China ran $165–520 per set, with Alibaba’s display prices denser at $92–363. The floor sat at $79–87 for single-seat and promotional pieces; sectional and leather claims tailed to $2,000. The very low $1–21 entries you will see are component or teaser prices, not sofas.

MOQs are the friendliest of any category: 1–10 sets typical, with 5 sets the most common figure and 50 the high end. A small first order is genuinely possible here — the constraint is freight, since a set fills serious container space.

Foshan’s category

No category in our sampling was more concentrated: Foshan logged 205 mentions on a single Made-in-China results page, with Guangzhou second and Zhejiang/Ningbo minor. Upholstery is labour- and material-network-intensive, and Foshan’s fabric, leather, foam and frame suppliers sit within one logistics radius — the listing data simply reflects that.

Our directory, built so far from the Anji association roster, nonetheless lists a substantial group of makers with sofa, recliner or massage lines — Anji’s larger factories (including publicly listed ones) run upholstery alongside chair production. For pure sofa programmes Foshan is the deeper pool; for mixed chair-plus-sofa containers the Anji makers below are worth a look.

What to check before wiring a deposit

• Put foam density and frame material in the contract — Foam density (kg/m³) and frame construction are where a $300 set becomes a $165 set without the photo changing. Specify both, and have the inspector cut-check a unit if the order justifies it.
• Collect the full compliance set — Depending on destination: CARB/TSCA for composite board, REACH for chemicals, FSC if you claim certified timber, plus flammability rules in some markets. Ask for current test reports matched to your actual materials, not the factory’s generic file.
• Price the US tariff stack before quoting customers — Since October 2025, certain upholstered wooden seating imported into the US carries a 25% Section 232 tariff, stacked on earlier China-specific duties; the scheduled 2026 increase was delayed but the 25% stands. Model it into landed cost before committing.
• Be careful with DDP — Buyers of consolidated DDP furniture shipments have found the supplier unable to produce the import declaration afterwards — leaving no proof duty and VAT were paid. If you buy DDP, contract for the entry documents by name.
• Quote freight per set, early — A set can occupy 3–6 CBM packed. Get carton dimensions and sets-per-40′ with the first quote; freight decides this category’s economics.
